This baking blog is for those of you who enjoy baking and eating cakes but who wonder how they can possibly fit with healthy eating. Interested? Then read on…..

We constantly hear that we eat too much sugar, that too many of us are overweight  and that this leads to major health problems. Worryingly for health professionals and parents, a third of 10-11 year olds and over a fifth of 4-5 year olds are already overweight or obese. As a paediatrician and a scientist, how can I justify producing a blog with cake and pudding recipes? Well, over the past couple of years I’ve been baking cakes and puddings for my family using much less sugar. And they work, and we like them, so I wanted to share the recipes with you.

These are not ‘diet cakes’, so please don’t feel you need to eat more – they are still cakes after all! They would never be a showstopper on Bake Off but they are mostly very easy and quick to make – and if I can get them to work then so can you. In short, if you fancy a bit of cake give one of these recipes a go and see what you think…… you can download them from the ‘Blog and Recipes’ section.

And because if you are visiting this site you might be interested to hear a bit more about the latest scientific and medical advances hitting the headlines, I’ll also be including some science and health stuff.
